Pathogenesis • • Virus is epitheliotropic in nature. On oral ingestion, virus invades and replicates in the gastric or intestinal mucosa producing focal degeneration, vesicle formation and focal areas of inflammation. Then invades lymph and blood results in viraemia and reaches epithelium of other mucous membrane, interdigital space, dorsum of tongue, gums etc. produce vesicles. On skin wounds, virus multiplies in the skin epithelium and invades blood, coming to skin again produce lesions as above. • • In fatal cases, it causes myocardial degeneration in young calves
